RSS (Really Simple Syndication) is a format for sharing content that lets users access updated information from multiple online sources without having to visit each site separately. RSS newsfeeds are available from thousands of news, sports, entertainment, travel and other sites, even blogs (samples: Blogger, WordPress).

To take advantage of this, you'll need an RSS reader, which goes out and gets RSS feeds and aggregates them for you in folders, much like Email. Free Web-based RSS readers include: NewsGator, Pluck, Google Reader, etc. After signing up for the reader, you can subscribe to feeds from any RSS-enabled Web site.

Podcasting is the distribution of audio or video files over the Internet using RSS. A podcast is basically a Web feed of such files placed online for anyone to subscribe and listen to on their computers or portable devices. A subscription feed that's automatically delivered as content is what distinguishes a podcast from a simple download or real-time streaming. The overall essence of podcasting is to create audio and/or video content for an audience that wants to listen to what they want, when they want, and also how they want information.
